Keyed Into Performers Every couple of weeks, Gary Bryant of OnlyPiano.com talks with a seasoned performer, piano teacher or an up-and-coming indie artist. This is our archive of those interviews.
David Lanz David Lanz, is notably the most recognizable name in New-Age music. His gold record Cristofori's Dream became the first #1 Billboard New Age/Adult Alternative album. His album East of the Moon, was nominated for a Grammy. We spoke with David in early January of 2005.
Gary Paul Bryant Paul McCartney did it a couple times. Prince/The Artist LOVES to do it. Gary Paul Bryant doesn't follow in anyone's footsteps, but his shoes and socks are plenty big enough. Gary's new CD, Imaginary Piano, is a tour de force, every sound you hear coming from the same guy, whether it's uptempo Rick Wakeman-like uplifts, or jazz boogie in the style of a solo Henry Mancini, or simply straight jazz blues, just about every style of ebony and ivory is covered here (without actually covering anything; all compositions are his).
Bob Alberti Bob Alberti spent a lifetime as a professional pianist, composer and conductor and arranger. With Jazz as his primary love, he always gravitated to the famous clubs on 52nd street in New York. Bob spent 23 years at NBC in California where he was in charge of all the music for the long running Bob Hope television series. While at NBC in the 70's and 80's, he served as an alternate pianist on the Tonight Show with Doc Sevrensen’s Orchestra. He was twice nominated for an Emmy in musical direction.
Jill Palmer Originally from Columbia, Maryland, Jill began playing piano at age 5 and composed her first melody at 8, a piece she still performs in concert and included on her first album. Her first CD, Remember When, skyrocketed when it was added to Smooth Jazz and New-Age playlists at radio stations across the US. With her second CD, Wings to Fly, she expands on her talents and is currently developing an innovative music hospice program.
Don Rebic Within a year of moving to New York City he was conducting his first show on Broadway, Jesus Christ Superstar. He's been an accompanist to Peggy Lee, Dixie Carter, Morgana King and others. He's a jazz pianist, conductor, musical directory and composer. Now he’s released his first independent CD.
Doug Strock Doug Strock was raised in Boston and Martha's Vineyard. He holds degrees from Columbia and Yale where he majored in Russian and teaching. Somewhere along the line he found jazz piano and built a San Diego teaching practice. Doug has now released his first CD, Piano Dreams.
